In years past, Prime Day has taken place in mid-summer, months before Black Friday, so it wasn’t truly an indication of what the late fall shopping holidays would hold. But because it happened a little over a month before Black Friday this year, we basically got a .
Here’s what we’re expecting from Black Friday based on what we saw during Prime Day:
Don’t wait for Black Friday for the best deals
We started seeing Prime Day prices well before Prime Day officially started, and we fully expect that to be the case for Black Friday as well. Black Friday prices will be live before the actual day and will likely last past Cyber Monday.
In fact, we know that some retailers are even planning pre-Black Friday shopping events. , for instance, has events planned for Nov. 4 and Nov. 11, where the retailer will be offering Black Friday-level deals on products like vacuums, laptops, and AirPods (which will drop down to $99 for the first time).
In previous years we might’ve told you to wait until it’s actually Black Friday to hit the buy button, but it truly feels like every day from now until the end of the year is Black Friday. So, if you see a good deal, don’t wait — just go for it.
Prepare for stockouts on hot items
We predicted items would go out of stock during Prime Day, but now that we’ve seen exactly which items those were, we’re better prepared for which products will sell out quickly during Black Friday too.
The top items we saw with stockouts during Prime Day were Fire TVs (and other smart 4K TVs) and Instant Pots. The deals on these products were actually good enough to merit selling out of stock, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re wanting a new TV or Instant Pot.
Don’t expect Nintendo Switch console deals
Nintendo pretty much has the market cornered when it comes to the Switch — there aren’t any real competitors. So it’s highly unlikely that the console itself will go on sale. Hell, we’ll be lucky enough to find it . But, we will see some discounts on Switch games; and the games are the whole reason you’re buying the console anyway, right?
PlayStation and Xbox accessories will have discounts, though
The comes out Nov. 12 and the release on Nov. 10, and in case you don’t have a calendar in front of you, that’s two weeks before Black Friday. That means we can probably expect PlayStation and Xbox accessories like controllers to go on sale ahead of the holidays.
Headphones and Instant Pots will have some of the biggest savings
and were huge during Prime Day events. is definitely a retailer to check out for these deals, as we already know AirPods will be less than $100 and a couple of Instant Pot models will be $50 off. We suspect they’ll be big across many retailers during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Amazon devices are better in bundles
Amazon devices always get special treatment during Prime Day — it is their holiday, after all. We noticed that opting for device bundles actually got you a way better deal than just buying singular devices alone.
I bought an Echo Show 8 and Blink Mini camera together for only $70. The Echo Show 8 alone usually costs $129.99. These bundle savings are *huge* and they help you build out your smart home with more devices. Expect these bundles to make a reappearance during Black Friday.
This is the longest holiday shopping season yet in what feels like the longest year ever, but that just means you have more time to take advantage of lower prices. So, get your Black Friday plan ready and start shopping now as deals continue to roll out.
