After almost a year full of speculation, Apple finally launched the much-awaited iPhone 12 series. With the best 5G experience and exquisite features like Ceramic Shield and MagSafe, this is truly the best iPhone. And, to top it all off, there’s also a LiDAR scanner and Dolby Vision HDR that achieves the highest-quality video on a smartphone.
It’s been quite a year for Apple and, naturally, it couldn’t have ended without an iPhone release. After numerous leaks, the new iPhone 12 lineup is finally here. Just like the leaks said, this phone is packed with great features. When we reviewed the Apple Time Flies event back in September, we thought the new Apple Watch Series 6 was the best from Apple this year. But the iPhone 12 takes it one step further.
The fact that it comes packed with the A14 Bionic Chip and 5G only makes this iPhone experience even smarter. You can not only accessorize your new iPhone 12 with cases but also make it entirely yours with your own icon packs. Isn’t that amazing? Let’s see what else this new iPhone has in store.
The new iPhone 12 has 5G
This is one of the biggest updates the iPhone series has ever had. With 5G, Apple aims to make iPhone speeds super fast as well as enhance their security and privacy.
Hans Vestburg, CEO of Verizon, said during the event, “5G just got real.”
For the first time ever, iPhones can now access 5G Ultra Wideband with Verizon. This will enable upload speeds up to 2,000 Mbps and download speeds up to 4 Gbps. It will massively reduce bottlenecks in crowded spaces as well as provide super-low latency so multiplayer gaming is as smooth as can be. Verizon plans to take 5G nationwide starting today. And, best of all, the entire lineup of new iPhones will have 5G!
iPhone 12 has a classic flat design and Super Retina XDR display
The design comes in five fantastic colors: black, white, red, green, and blue. The 6.1″ display size is 11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter than iPhone 11, thanks to the Super Retina XDR display.
The resolution is 2x better than the iPhone 11. The cover glass on the iPhone 12 is even better than on the iPhone 11. This is now called the Ceramic Shield, which adds a high-temperature crystal design to enhance durability. So, this makes the iPhone 12 more durable than ever, four times better to be exact.
There are custom 5G antennas in the device to make it easy for network access. The iOS frameworks have also been optimized for 5G. There’s also the Smart Data Mode, which will switch your iPhone to LTE when you don’t need 5G to save battery.
A14 Bionic chip makes the new iPhone 12 even smarter than before
This new chip is the first smartphone chip built using the five-nanometer process technology. It improves both performance and efficiency. The six-core CPU in the A14 is the fastest CPU on a mobile phone. That brings about a dramatic increase in machine-learning experience.
Fun Fact: A14 Bionic chip and the 5G Ultra Wideband bring the League of Legends: Wild Rift game to the iOS.
The iPhone 12 has a dual-camera system with an ultrawide and wide camera. The Smart HDR3 feature understands scenes with machine learning and can highlight more details in a picture. The Night Mode comes to all cameras of the iPhone 12 series. The video also gets big improvements with Night Mode Time Lapse.
iPhone 12 gets MagSafe
MagSafe is here to improve wireless charging once and for all. The magnets in MagSafe are designed for alignment and efficiency. Therefore, the devices in the collection work seamlessly with Qi-compatible wireless chargers. All new cases and accessories for the iPhone 12 are MagSafe compatible.
Also, every iPhone will now come with a USB-C cable, though it will still use the Lightning cable.
The iPhone 12 starts at $799.
iPhone 12 mini is the smallest, thinnest 5G phone in the world
This iPhone comes with a 5.4″ display that lets you see so much more. It has the exact same features as the iPhone 12 and can also fit in the palm of your hand.
The iPhone 12 Mini is sold for $699.
iPhone 12 Pro comes with the largest display on an iPhone
The phone comes with a surgical grade stainless steel band and back glass. The finishes include Silver, Graphite, Gold, and Pacific Blue. The phone also includes Ceramic Shield and is water and dust resistant (IP68). It is compatible with MagSafe accessories. The FXDR display comes in 6.1″ for the iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7″ for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the largest display ever in an iPhone. The camera system entertains deep fusion with machine learning for better precision, texture, and minimal noise in images. The A14 Bionic chip brings deep fusion to all four cameras including the front selfie camera. The Pro Camera system with an ultrawide, wide, and a 52-mm telephoto camera.
Apple ProRAW brings deep fusion to the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera system
The Pro Max camera system goes one step further with a telephoto lens having a 65 mm equivalent focal length. It can even do 5x telephoto zoom. The wide camera has a 47% larger sensor and sensor-shift optical image stabilization. There’s also the new Optical Image Stabilization, and it can adjust 5,000 times per second. Moreover, it boasts two-second stabilized exposures. But the most exciting feature is Apple ProRAW. Coming later this year, this feature puts multiframe smartHDR into a RAW format. The new deep image file will be computed at the time of capture without shutter delay.
Additionally, the iPhone 12 Pro Max also gets HDR video recording and supports Dolby Vision HDR. This makes the iPhone the only device that will let you create, edit, and share Dolby Vision videos.
The new iPhone 12 Pro Max gets improved LiDAR
Another important feature is LiDAR, which takes the iPhone 12 Pro camera system to a different level. With improved accuracy and faster autofocus—even in low light scenes up to 6x—this technology will make your Night Mode shots as crisp as can be.
The iPhone 12 Pro starts at $999, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will start at $1,099. Preorders begin October 16, and the phones will be available from October 23.
