Fans of disgruntled winged creatures will be pleased to know that Angry Birds is once again returning to storefronts. Angry Birds previously had been removed from the App Store and Google Play stores, but is now making a triumphant return to your mobile screens.
In a statement on its website, developers Rovio have announced that Angry Birds will once again be available on smartphones at some point in the future. The portion of the statement relating to the return of Angry Birds is below:
“What we want to say, though, is: We hear you. There’s a big outcry for getting back some of the older fan favorites (Angry Birds Classic, Angry Birds Seasons etc). We also want to say: We are working on it! We will find a way to bring these classic experiences back to you. It might take a while (stay tuned, we will post updates!), but we have something in the works.”
Many games in the Angry Birds franchise (including Angry Birds Classic and Angry Birds: Seasons) were originally taken off storefronts in 2019 due to the challenges of consistently having to update new versions of the games within the fast paced and continuous development of mobile technology. This meant that the developers were unable to keep updating new versions of their older games in order to keep them on storefronts.
However, Rovio’s statement suggests a renewed effort is afoot to find a way to bring Angry Birds back onto mobile storefronts is a priority for the company. The statement is also followed up by a Q&A which expands on some of the plans for the return of Angry Birds. The suggestion from Rovio is that these versions of the games will not be just the original games reuploaded to stores, but will be rebuilt versions of the classic games that can keep up with the regular updates and live service content that the mobile games of today require:
“The older games were designed in a completely different era of the mobile games industry, one that wasn’t prepared for the live-services and constant content and technological updates that many players expect and demand from today’s mobile game experiences. We are constantly trying new things to bring you new and fun games!”
Angry Birds is one of the biggest mobile franchises of all time, spawning a huge following, various merchandise and two movies somehow! The franchise is still getting content, with a Netflix series on the way this year. If you’re hankering for an Angry Birds fix right now, Angry Birds Reloaded is available on Apple Arcade. Let us know if you’ve missed the classic mobile franchise in the comments below.
