Sony Xperia 5 III Price
The Xperia 5 II was criticized mostly for its high price – $950 for a compact flagship seems to be too much, especially now when we have the iPhone 12 mini selling for $699. Sadly, we don’t expect Sony to budge and lower the price of the Xperia 5 III, so if you want some Sony magic, you better start saving now.
Sony Xperia 5 III Release date
- September 2021 (April 2021?)
Sony usually announces its new Xperia 5 phones in September, so no reason this year to be an exception. Expect the Xperia 5 III to be officially unveiled around mid-September 2021, with sales going live a month later.
UPDATE: Sony has scheduled a press conference event on April 14, and rumor has it that the company will be sharing some Xperia-related news – most likely the official announcement of the new Xperia 1 III flagship. There’s a chance to see other devices too, such as the Xperia 10 III midranger, and also the Xperia 5 III, so stay tuned for more info.

It’s still early days, so we don’t know much about the Xperia 5 Mark III and its specs. However, Sony has kept things quite consistent with the new lineup and we can make some educated guesses about the Xperia 5 III. The phone would probably sport the same dimensions as its predecessors – 6.22 x 2.68 x 0.31 inches. Regarding the chipset, the Xperia 5 models sport the same platform as their Xperia 1 counterparts, so we can assume the Xperia 5 III will have a Snapdragon 888 on board. As for the memory, we expect the same 8GB/128GB configuration we saw in the previous model.
Sony Xperia 5 III Design and Display
Sony will no doubt stick to the 21:9 aspect ratio with its Xperia phones. And although there were some rumors, suggesting that the Xperia 5 III might sport a cutout for the selfie camera on the front, chances are we’re going to get the same omni-balance design that Sony seems to be so proud of.
As for the display itself, Sony will probably opt for the same 6.1-inch FHD+ HDR OLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a great panel and there’s no reason to change things around so much when the competition is arriving just now at these refresh rates. Glass and metal will probably be the design language of the Xperia 5 III.
Sony Xperia 5 III Camera system
Like its predecessors, the Xperia 5 III would probably carry over the camera system from the Xperia 1 III. According to sources from Japan, Sony has decided to add a periscope camera to the main system on the back of the Xperia 1 III, so we expect to see a high-zoom lens on the Xperia 5 III as well.
The exact specifications aren’t available at the moment, but the new zoom camera should offer at least 5x optical zoom, although 10x can’t be ruled out, and it’ll sit alongside a 3D Time-of-Flight sensor, the main camera, and what’s probably an ultra-wide shooter.
Sony Xperia 5 III Battery
Sony did a great job with Xperia 5 II’s battery, increasing the capacity to 4,000mAh (the original Xperia 5 sported a 3,140 mAh battery). Thanks to the innovative double mainboard design of the Xperia 5 II the Japanese company was able to achieve this 25% increase in capacity compared to the Xperia 5. Now, keeping the size the same means it will be very difficult to find more gains in this department. It’s highly likely for the Xperia 5 III to sport the same 4,000mAh battery we saw in its predecessor.
