Poll data: How readers feel about the Google Pixel 5 2

Earlier this week, Google finally took the wraps off the Google Pixel 5, its latest flagship offering in the Pixel lineup. It also launched the Google Pixel 4a 5G, a souped-up edition of the Pixel 4a.

Android Authority visitors love reading about Pixel phones — but do they actually love buying them? That’s what we intended to find out with a pair of polls. They gave us a gauge of how excited you are about the Pixels and whether or not you intend to buy one.

Below, you’ll find our results related to these polls. You’ll also find some comments from you, our readers, that should give some more insight into the topics.

AA readers’ thoughts on Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G

The first question we asked is as basic as it gets: is the Pixel 5 hot or not? There’s no middle ground here, so you either need to think that the phone is exciting or boring. Here are the results:

Clearly, the majority of our readers think Google did a great job with the Google Pixel 5 overall. Of course, nearly 36% of you think the phone is just no good, but it appears you are in the minority.

Next, we ran a poll with a bit more nuance. In this, we asked if you intend to buy the Pixel 5 or the Pixel 4a 5G. There were five possible answers:

  • Yes, I’m buying the Pixel 5.
  • Yes, I’m buying the Pixel 4a 5G.
  • Yes, I’m buying both.
  • No, I’m not buying either.
  • I haven’t decided yet.

As it turns out, the majority of readers who responded to this poll are planning to buy at least one of the devices. Check out the results below.

If you combine the three “Yes, I’m going to buy” responses, you get about 55% of responders who plan to give Google some cash for a phone. If you include the nearly 15% of responders who haven’t decided yet, that’s nearly 70% of Android Authority poll responders who are at least thinking about buying one of these phones. That’s good news for Google!

Of course, there are still around 31% of responders who have no intention of buying a Google Pixel 5 or Pixel 4a 5G.

Let’s take a look now at some of your comments to get a better idea of what’s going on here.

Just get a refurbished Galaxy S20 Plus for the same price.

Jawbox
Pre-ordered the Pixel 5, coming from a Pixel 2 XL. Still feeling $699 is a bit steep though and am considering canceling? Seems like $599 would have been perfect. $649 maybe was a good middle ground though.

I would buy one if they sold their phones in Brazil/South America. Google is losing money not selling their phones to South America.

Stanley Kubrick
My Samsung Galaxy S20 FE just shipped! Better deal than any Pixel (at least any new Pixel here in 2020).

alvinator
Just bought a Pixel 4a. I am completely satisfied.
