Leaked iPhone 12 icons show off smaller notch ahead of tomorrow's event 2

With less than one day to go until the 5G iPhone 12 series is officially unveiled, Apple has uploaded small icons to the iCloud website that are allegedly meant to illustrate the next-generation iPhones.
These could be placeholder icons uploaded before the final icons are available tomorrow, though, so take everything with the usual pinch of salt.

The iPhone 12 notch looks a lot like the old one

Spotted first by the AppleSWUpdates Twitter account and obtained in a higher resolution format by the people at 9to5Mac, the new icons show some subtle differences when compared to the current iPhone 11 icons.

The illustrated model boasts a revised notch above the display that appears narrower than before, although the differences are certainly nothing major and they’ll likely go unnoticed by the majority of customers.

Apple has uploaded the icon with four different ‘iPhone13.x’ identifiers, therefore corroborating rumors of four different models this year. The iPhone 11 line uses the ‘iPhone12.x’ identifiers, for reference.

It’s unclear which model forms the basis of the icon pictured above, but recent reports have claimed Apple has plans for a slightly smaller notch on the compact 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini.
If the model in the icon is indeed the iPhone 12 mini, that also means good news on the bezel front. To be specific, it seems the introduction of OLED means the standard iPhone 12 models will be saying goodbye to the thick iPhone 11 bezels and hello to an iPhone 11 Pro-like implementation.

What else can be expected from the iPhone 12?

The standard iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 will boast updated aluminum and glass builds complete with a flat frame. The front pictured above looks set to be paired with an updated dual-camera system on the back similar to the one found on the iPhone 11.

Sitting on the inside is the A14 Bionic which made its debut last month inside the new iPad Air. This time around, however, it’ll be coupled with 5G network connectivity as standard with US buyers also receiving mmWave support.

Unfortunately, Apple isn’t expected to introduce any significant upgrades on the storage front, with 64GB rumored for the base model alongside 4GB of RAM. Of course, 128GB and 256GB variants are also on the way.

The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max devices, on the other hand, should land with an improved triple-camera system on the rear and a LiDAR Scanner similar to the one present on the iPad Pro (2020). To make the Pro Max model more attractive, a better primary camera is rumored too.

The same chipset and connectivity options as the regular iPhone 12 models are on the cards, although the storage will be receiving an upgrade. After years of resisting, Apple is finally expected to offer 128GB of storage inside the standard model.

A decent 6GB of RAM is also on the cards and, for those interested, 256GB and 512GB models are planned.
