NEW DELHI: France in Western Europe has witnessed maximum protests against China in the past week reflecting growing anger on the streets of key world power against the Chinese Communist Party.

On October 1, more than 300 people belonging to multiple groups including Tibetan associations, the Uyghur association of France, South Mongolians, Falange Gong, Hong Kong dissidents and Taiwanese gathered at the Trocadero square near the Eiffel Tower in Paris to protest against the human rights violations of the Chinese State and join the global call for resistance against the Chinese Communist Party.

Each group carried banners and flags representing their group and raised slogans against China, ET has learnt.

Leaders of the various groups gathered on the occasion called on the international community to support their struggle against China. Protestors carried Free Hong Kong placards and many wore masks with ‘Free Tibet’ on printed on them.

The protest , which lasted more than 3 hours, ended with all protestors lighting up the Paris night with their mobile phone torches and singing ‘we shall overcome’.

The Inter Parliamentary Alliance on China also lent its support to the protest.

In France, the mobilization also took the form of a column published on Wednesday September 30 by various personalities in release who call on the international community to act quickly against a crime against humanity. Among the signatories are PS MP Raphaël Glucksmann, actor Omar Sy, writer Salman Rushdie and economist Thomas Piketty.

According to André Gallotin, senator and co-president of the inter-parliamentary alliance on China, “we must not forget that the republic of china also rhymes with non-respect for human rights.”

“For me we are frankly in a totalitarian regime. I had caused a scandal in a magazine by saying that we are at the advent of a Fourth Reich but I think we can say that we are in a version 2.0 of the authoritarian post-communist dictatorship with full control of people…”

Over the past few months, Raphael Glucksmann a Member of European Parliament has begun a successful campaign to raise the issue of Uyghur persecution in Europe.

Glucksmann is the Chairman of the sub committee on human rights in the European Parliament.

He was planning a large demonstration of more than 1000 uyghurs in Paris on October 3, but had to cancel this due to the pandemic spreading again in France. Instead he started a signature campaign that has gathered many re than 150000 signatures in less than 5 days. 53 French MPs have expressed support of the Uyghur cause.
