New Delhi: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lokshakti) has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner seeking permission to continue the agitation at Ramlila Ground in the National Capital so that citizens do not face any difficulties. At the same time, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, a group of 41 farmers’ unions, announced on Sunday that a Kisan Gantantra Parade will be organised on the outer Ring Road of Delhi on Republic Day.

The farmers will carry out a tractor march on the outer Ring Road without disrupting the Rajpath parade, the farmers’ leaders said after a meeting on Sunday where they discussed their future roadmap. Some farmer leaders also met opposition leaders who could make their voice of protest heard in Parliament and outside.

Earlier, many farmer leaders said the parade will be organised on the Rajpath in parallel to the Republic Day parade.

“This will be a peaceful parade and we hope that Delhi and Haryana Police won’t trouble us in organising the parade,” Yogendra Yadav, told media persons after the meeting.

The Supreme Court will hear the case again on Monday and farmer leaders said that a decision will be taken only after the hearing on Monday.

The farmer leaders took strong objection to the NIA notice being sent to some farmer leaders and those supporting the movement.

On Sunday, the Union agriculture minister said the government is ready to make amendments in the farm laws but the farmer leaders were adamant on the repeal of the law.

“The minister has done it deliberately so that farmer leaders don’t come for the meeting on January 19. We will go to the meeting and demand answers from them,” said Shivkumar Kaka, farmer leader from MP, said.

In another development, Gurnam Singh Chaduni, a farmer leader from Haryana met with leaders of the opposition parties in Delhi to garner support for the farmer movement. The meeting was attended by Congress, AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) and some independent leaders.

“There will be a Jan Sansad of farmers in Delhi on January 22 and 23 and the opposition parties will support it,” Chaduni told ET.

“Political parties have to be kept away from the farmers’ movement. However, the opposition parties who are supporting the farmers can come together and put pressure on the government and NDA allies by raising the issue in Parliament and outside,” Digvijaya Singh, senior Congress leader who attended the meeting, told ET.

Apart from Singh, Congress leader and MP from Punjab Gurjit Singh Aujla, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, AAP leader Jarnail Singh, former Congress leader Ashok Tanwar and others were present at the meeting.

The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha however clarified that it has nothing to do with the meeting of Chaduni with political parties in Delhi. EOM
