Covid-19: PM Modi talks to leaders of Qatar, Egypt and Austria | India News


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday had a telephonic conversation with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to convery his Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the people of both the countries.
PM Modi also spoke to Austria President Alexander Van der Bellen to discuss the Covid-19 situation.
During the phone conversation with the Qatar Emir, PM Modi appreciated the personal care taken by the Emir for ensuring the welfare of Indian citizens in Qatar during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to an official statement.
“The Qatar Emir also appreciated the contributions of the Indian community in the country, especially the role being played by Indian health workers to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the attention being paid by Indian authorities to avoid any disruption in the supply of essential goods from India to Qatar during the present situation,” the statement added.
PM Modi also conveyed his warm greetings for the forthcoming 40th birthday of the Qatar Emir and expressed best wishes for his continued good health and success.
During his phone call with the Egyptian President, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for the support extended by Egyptian authorities for the safety and welfare of Indian nationals in Egypt during the Covid-19 crisis.
“Reciprocating the greetings, the Egyptian President referred to Egypt and India as being among the oldest civilizations in the world, and expressed happiness about the fast expanding bilateral relationship,” the statement said.
The PM also talked to the the Austrian President who condoled the damage caused in India by cyclone Amphan.
“The leaders exchanged views on measures taken in their countries to manage the adverse health and economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. They agreed on the importance of international collaboration to deal with the present challenges,” the official statement said.
Both PM Modi and Alexander Van der Bellen reiterated their shared desire to further strengthen and diversify India-Austria relations in the post-Covid world.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the opportunities for enhanced cooperation in sectors like infrastructure, technology, research and innovation, SMEs, etc.
The leaders shared the hope that the world would soon overcome the current health crisis, so as to be able to focus on longer-term concerns like the health of the environment.
