  • Devotees will be allowed to visit Patna’s Mahavir temple during specified time slots based on the alphabetical order in their names so as to ensure the strict compliance of the norms of social distancing, once the temple reopens after the coronavirus lockdown ends.
  • Temple authorities have decided to divide the temple visit timings into hourly slots according to alphabets in the name of devotees.

  • Two brothers who returned from Delhi amid the lockdown have quarantined themselves as a precautionary measure to halt the spread of coronavirus.
  • One of the brothers Satyrndra Kumar told ANI that a truck ferried them to their village yesterday.”We came to Ayodhya in a truck. After reaching our village we quarantined ourselves about 600 metres away from our home,” he said.
  • The men have made their beds by using wooden logs and ropes in an open surrounding. Both of them were seen wearing masks and were abiding by all the norms to stop the spread of coronavirus.

China reports 3 new coronavirus cases after first day with none

  • China recorded three new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland for May 23, following the first day with no new cases since the outbreak began, the National Health Commission (NHC) said in a statement on Sunday.
  • Of the new cases, two were imported while one was a local transmission, the NHC said.
  • Friday was the first time China had seen no daily rise in the number of cases since the pandemic began in the central city of Wuhan late last year.
  • The number of new asymptomatic cases of the coronavirus increased to 36 from 28 a day earlier, the NHC said.

Argentina extends mandatory lockdown for city of Buenos Aires until June 7

  • Argentina extended a mandatory lockdown for the capital, Buenos Aires, until June 7, President Alberto Fernandez announced on Saturday, after the city saw a steady increase of coronavirus cases in recent days.
  • Argentina’s lockdown, which was due to expire on Sunday, has been in place since March 20, though officials relaxed restrictions in some areas of the country.

21 of 73 people who arrived from USA test positive for COVID-19 in Haryana’s Panchkula

  • A total of 21 out of 73 people who arrived from the USA on May 19 have tested positive for COVID19, according to officials.
  • “All of them are not residents of Panchkula but belong to various districts. 2 reports were inconclusive and rest were negative,” said Dr Jasjit Kaur, Chief Medical Officer, Panchkula.

Flight services at Dharamshala airport starts Monday, but first get entry pass: DC

  • The Dharamshala administration has said only persons with a valid address proof of Himachal Pradesh should book air tickets to the city in the domestic flight services resuming on Monday, and the flyer will have to obtain a district entry-pass.
  • Flight services from Delhi and Chandigarh to Dharamshala will start Monday. Dharamshala will have two flights from Delhi and one from Chandigarh daily.
  • In an advisory, the district administration said only persons with valid address proof of Himachal Pradesh should book tickets to Dharamshala.
  • And the incoming person will have to obtain an entry pass from the concerned district administration, which will have to be shown on de-boarding the flight at Gaggal airport of Dharamshala, the administration said.

UP bans corona patients from keeping mobile phones inside isolation wards of COVID-19 hospitals

  • Uttar Pradesh government has banned patients admitted in dedicated L-2 and L-3 COVID hospitals to take mobile phones along with them in the isolation wards so as to check the spread of coronavirus infection.
  • As per the orders, two mobile phones are required to made available with the ward in-charge of the COVID care centres so that patients and talk to their family members and administration if required. Further, the orders specify that the mobile numbers should be communicated to the family members of the patients.

Delhi govt to hire 200 taxis to strengthen its ambulance services

  • The Delhi government has decided to hire 200 taxis from cab aggregators Ola and Uber to strengthen its ambulance service which is under pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The hired taxis, 110 from Ola and 91 from Uber, will be used for carrying non-critical and non-COVID-19 patients to and from hospitals, a Delhi government order said.
  • The taxis to be used as ambulance vehicles will be placed under the CATS director who is responsible for managing the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulances.
  • Such a decision was taken in view of high demand of CATS ambulances for ferrying coronavirus patients due to which more vehicles were needed to serve those suffering from other ailments.

US adds 1,127 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours: Johns Hopkins

  • The United States recorded a further 1,127 deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing its total to 97,048 since the global pandemic began, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.
  • The country has also officially logged 1,621,658 cases of the virus, far more than any other nation, the tracker kept by the Baltimore-based university showed at 8:30 pm

Mexico reports 65,856 coronavirus cases, 7,179 deaths

Mexican health authorities registered 3,329 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the country and 190 new deaths, a health official said on Saturday, bringing the total number to 65,856 cases and 7,179 deaths.

Choose between paid COVID-test and home quarantine on arrival: Goa govt

  • The Goa government on Saturday said that the people coming to the state by air, rail or road route will have the option to either undergo a paid COVID-19 test at the entry point or undergo a 14-day home quarantine.
  • “The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be uniform for road, rail and air passengers. After the thermal screening, passengers can either opt for a COVID-19 test or a 14-day quarantine at home. They can choose between the two options, through a self-declaration form which will be given to them during the journey,” said the State Health Secretary Nila Mohanan in a press conference on Saturday.
  • “Meanwhile, the SOP for the international passengers travelling to Goa, which includes a mandatory 14-day stay in institutional quarantine, however, remains unchanged,” Mohanan added.
  • The cost of the COVID-19 test charged by the state government is Rs 2,000 and would have to be borne by the incoming passenger.
  • One more person on Saturday tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of active cases to 39 in the State, said Nila Mohanan.

People throng markets in Doda, Imphal for Eid shopping flouting social distancing norms

  • Social distancing norms were flouted as people thronged markets for the purchases here on Saturday ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
  • A resident of Doda said, “Doda is a green zone but it does not mean we have to be complacent. People were seen violating the norms of social distancing today. Even the administration is not as active as it was earlier.”
  • “There was no social distancing in markets. What is the need for shopping for festival amid pandemic? The administration has also lowered the guard after relaxations in lockdown. I appeal to people to take precautionary measures”, Khalid Najeeb Surawardhy, Imam of Jamia Masjid, Doda said.
  • Meanwhile, people also thronged markets in Imphal for festive purchases.
