Workwear fabric is used in the production of garments worn by labors in different industries during the working hours. The workwear fabric used in clothing like a uniform for the workers and labors. Heat resistant workwear fabrics:
They are also known as fire-resistant fabrics. Although no fabric is fireproof, some fabrics can resist the fire better than others. Flame resistant workwear fabrics can resist the fire and takes a long duration to burn. These fabrics are of two types natural and synthetic.
- Natural heat resistant fabrics:

The fabric is considered as very durable and commonly available in two forms. The fibers are very strong, but the fabric is light to wear. The fibers retain the dye as well. It can also absorb U.V light. Besides showing resistant against chemicals, the fabric has a high melting point of 480º F. Hence used in a wide range in the garment industry.
There are a lot of varieties of nylon. Most commonly Nylon 66 and Nylon 11 are used as workwear fabric. The fabric is very durable as well as lustrous. Nylon, after exposure to the flames, melts first and turn into yellow liquid. It starts melting when the temperature is 492.8 °F or above. The durability, wear ability and easy maintenance make it preferable to use.
Amongst the natural fabrics, wool is considered as the most heat resistant fabric. And is only known as life saver due to this characteristic. It is considered as the safest workwear fabric used in the industry because of self-extinguishing and heat resistant properties. It is very hard to light wool since it has the highest detonation temperature of about 600° C. It even does not produce any harmful gas or flame when burnt. Besides this wool does not melt or even stick when it burns.
- Silica fabric:
It is similar to fiberglass and is the type of woven silica fiber. The fabric is utilized by many industries including welding to heat resistant workwear. The fabric shows high thermal resistivity and has the highest melting point of around 3000° F. Where they also show the lowest thermal conductivity. It is also widely used as workwear fabric in various industries.
- Synthetic heat resistant workwear fabrics:
Besides naturally occurring heat resistant fabrics, some fabrics are designed with some specific heat resistant chemicals and fibers to use as workwear fabric against fire. They are also known as coated fabrics. Most of them are coated with neoprene and silicone. Some of them are
Kevlar is one of the toughest fabrics. It has high ductile strength and chemical stability. Besides these, it is known for its thermal stability. The fabric does not catch fire at all and used as the workwear fabric for designing gloves, bulletproof jackets, face masks and sleeves.
- Synthetic acrylic fiber:
This fabric is considered as the least breathable cloth. Hence is typically used in Flame retardant fabric designed against flames. The fabric owns high heat retention capability. Durability, resistance against sunlight and chemicals like acids or alkalis also make it a good choice for workwear fabric.
It is also a synthetic fiber and has a lot of great characteristics. The fabric is intended to be chemical, electricity and heat resistant. Gloves shoes, trousers, socks, fighting suits and different linings used in welding and oil refineries use this as workwear fabric.
