Esrtwhile member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Finance Minister during Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA regime has been the voice of dissent against the present BJP leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. He has been repeatedly saying that demecratic values within the party and also across the nation are being destroyed. He has now joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress since he feels that she could be the rising symbol of dissent in the country.
