“A number of smaller parties have come together to form Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha. Now Owaisi Ji has announced to join the morcha,” Rajbhar told media persons in Lucknow.
In 2017, AIMIM had contested 38 seats in the assembly elections. Though the party couldn’t win any seat, its presence made BJP win four seats. The vote by AIMIM candidates on these four seats were higher than the victory margin. Later in the local body’s elections in the same year, AIMIM won 12 municipal councilor posts, four nagar palika parishad member posts and four nagar panchayat posts. Its mayor candidate was the runner up in Firozabad ahead of SP and BSP candidates.
Rajbhar had contested 2017 assembly elections in alliance with the BJP and won four seats. However before the 2019 Lok sabha polls, he moved away from the BJP. He recently met Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and looked like an alliance of the two was in the offing.
Apart from meeting Rajbhar, Owaisi is also trying to reach out to Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (PSP) president Shivpal Yadav. Last week AIMIM UP state coordinator Shaukal Ali had met Shivpal, who had responded well on alliance talks. Shivpal Yadav is said to be unhappy with the offer made by Akhilesh Yadav. Akhilesh Yadav is willing to leave two to three seats for Shivpal Yadav’s party but he is not willing to offer more than this. In such a case an alliance with Owasi and other smaller parties could give a boost to Shivpal. “No one can underestimate the power of Shivpal Yadav in UP politics,” Owaisi said while having praises for Shivpal.
Sources tell ET that Shivpal Yadav is still thinking on the idea to be with Owaisi and that’s one of the reasons he has not met him as yet.
On Tuesday AAP leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal too had announced AAP entry into UP polls in 2022.
