#followthroughlikeabossHello, my lovelies!

It’s that time of year again.  You know the one-  We all resolve to do something to improve our lives, better ourselves, move up at work, etc…

That’s right.  It’s time to declare our intentions for improvement in the coming year!  We will change ourselves, or (for the more ambitious) change the world!

I’m talking about all of the New Year resolutions that will be made this week…

Then, we basically forget that we ever said the things we did while celebrating.  Oh, you know- I had a few too many drinks.  Aaaaaand that’s the last time you mention your New Year resolution.  Until next year… when the cycle starts all over.

How many times have you made a New Years resolution that you actually followed through, until the end?  I bet the answer is either, “not often” or worse… “never”.  Am I right?

Don’t hang your head all sad like my friend.  You are NOT alone.

The vast majority of the human race is sitting on the resolution sidelines right there next to you.  Instead of screaming at the coach to pick you this year, how bout you just go ahead and take control of your resolution destiny?

It’s ok… calm down.  I know you think that’s soooo crazy.  Soooo far fetched.  But I’m gonna hold your hand and teach you the ways of the for, uh, show you the formula for crafting a new year’s resolution that sticks… That’s right, my friends.  This year, You’re gonna make a New Years resolution and follow it through like a boss!

I am your Jedi Master of Destiny fulfillment.

I have personally followed through on 3 separate occasions.  I guess that would statistically make me a resolution success story.  The first time I followed through was on a really vague, ego-pumping resolution that I came up with after binge-watching Seinfeld.

Ah…  the Year of Nicki was born that day.  That’s right.  I said that out loud at a New Year’s party, like ten(ish) years ago.

It was a fun exercise in follow-through.  What did I mean by, “the Year of Nicki”?  Well… I stopped being a chicken shhh(ut your mouth) for one.  No more thinking up great things then not acting on them, cuz, OMG! What would people think?  I guess you could say that my Give-a-damn busted that year.  The only thing (outside of family) that I really cared about was this whole, ‘Year of Nicki’ thing.

“Because it’s the Year of Nicki! That’s why!”

I took lessons and learned many of the things I had always wanted to do.  I switched careers 3 times.  I took epic vacations.  I found myself saying things like, “because it’s the Year of Nicki! That’s why!”.  I gave that little phrase a lot of power.

Really, though- it was just a ton of fun to say and act on.

Looking back, I think I just willed myself a giant pile of good luck to use.  That same year, in the middle of my giant ego driven resolution, I was at my Moms house for dinner.  After listening to everybody tell their tales, my Dad cut me off and said, “You are definitely the only person I know that can fall into a heaping pile of shit and rise up smelling like roses.”  Thanks, Dad.

That’s when I realized that it wasn’t the ‘Year of Nicki’ that made all of these great things happen to me.  It was the fact that if I stumbled, fell, or failed at something, I just got right up like nothing had happened and tried again.  I took the bull by the horns and never questioned myself.  Unfortunately, it was quite a few years before I let that sink in fully.

In 2014, I decided to make another resolution that sticks.

I resolved to quit an almost 30-year habit.  Yeah…  That’s a reeeeally long time to allow stupidity to consume your life.  So, I planned and put things in motion to change my life and health for the better.  On March 1st of 2014, I quit smoking.  March 1st of 2016 will mark 2 years smoke-free.  The resolution of 2014 was a huge success.  (…and still continues to be today:)

In 2015, I vowed to repeat my resolution winning streak.

I decided to start a business.  But, in order to pull it off, I’d have to teach myself coding and how to use a ton of other programs that were almost like learning a foreign language (including how to make apps-kinda proud of that one).  I totally Macguyvered my brain.   It’s a really good thing that I already had a pretty positive attitude toward following through with resolutions.

The planning, research, learning and implement phases took the majority of the year to complete.  I have to tell you, I almost gave up on this one.  I put off the actual website launch several times to continue my research for fear that I wasn’t ready… or hadn’t learned enough.  Then I remembered the ‘Year of Nicki’.  I knew no fear that entire year and I dove in without looking.

I announced my launch date to friends and family.  Now I’m accountable.  The next 2 weeks were a frenzy of sleepless nights in preparation.  I can’t tell you how many times I woke up at 3 A.M. and went to work.

I launched Licensetoblog.com on October 15th of 2015.

They say it takes quite some time to build a blog following and make money.  ‘They’ aren’t joking.  BUT- I work my butt off every single day(still do).  I’m constantly researching and writing.  I’m even at a point that I see the future of my craft, and can predict some of the future outcomes.  I made my first commission from licensetoblog.com (LtB as I like to call it) on Thanksgiving day.  You’d have thought I won the lottery with all the yelling, screaming and celebrating.

This years resolution will be my ‘hat trick’ of resolutions.

What have I learned on my resolution follow through journey?  I can do ANYTHING I set my mind to… and so can you if you just follow my guide to #Followthroughlikeaboss.  I’ve learned some valuable pearls of wisdom that you can use to craft a New Years resolution that sticks.

1.  Fear not the accountability

Really put some thought into your resolution this year and every year.  Say it out loud in front of people.  Post it on your social media.  Make yourself accountable.  People will ask you how it’s going and you’ll have to answer.  There’s a better chance that you’ll keep moving forward in your plan if people keep asking about it.

2.   Write out your plan

This was the fun part.  Don’t worry about the ‘how’… just write out a basic plan to get you to your resolution.  If you say that this year you resolve to get healthy- Your plan might include a bullet list of steps to take-

  • walk a mile 3xs a week
  • eat fruit for breakfast- learn to make smoothies
  • Get a gym membership or
  • find a killer workout routine online and DO IT
  • start juicing veggies 3xs a week
  • eat the recommended servings of veggies every day
  • learn to like more veggies without dipping them in ranch
  • buy new clothes to fit my awesome new body

3.    Research how to make it all happen

Learn to love the research phase.  This is where you figure out how to do all of the things in your plan.  You will read A LOT.  Just do it…  The sooner you learn the basics, the quicker you will get your results.  You don’t need a degree.  You can teach yourself almost everything just by finding the information on the internet.  You can do this part while eating, watching TV, getting ready for bed, on work breaks, etc… No excuses.  I even made one of my kids hold my iPad so I could research while floating in the pool… Be shamelessly relentless.

4.   Put your plan into play

This is BY FAR, the most important step.  If you don’t start, you’ll never finish.  You don’t even have to finish the research to get started…  I still research how to do stuff DAILY.  Set a date and announce it to everyone!

Now, many of you will get to this part and give up half way through.  Don’t.  Remind yourself WHY you made this resolution to begin with.  Most likely it was to improve your life in some way, right?  So, why stop?  Aren’t you important?  Alright then!  Now get to it!

5.  Announce your glorious results to the world!

This part is pretty cool.  You get to tell the tale of your great adventure in resolution follow through.  Make it a tale worth telling.  You can even ‘UP’ the accountability factor by announcing your progress through these steps on the social media of your choice.  When you do, add- #followthroughlikeaboss

So, my Lovelies… who will change their life for the better this year?

Yes, I know that my ‘Year of Nicki’ is seriously goofball.  BUT, it’s a true story- and it taught me how to follow through:)  Use my embarrassment to craft a better YOU.

I worked part time only on my blogs and they still managed to grow!  I had to go part time so I could spend all my time on my beautiful new granddaughter!:)

Its almost time to make a new resolution for 2017!  I’ve decided that I’m going to reformat licensetoblog.com into something completely different!  And, I may have to declare another “year of Nicki”… Just for kicks.

It doesn’t matter what you declare as long as you stick with it!

2017-Lets do this.

Don’t just think outside of the box- Live outside of it, too.
